The newly installed Kenya Sugar Board Chairman, Eng. Nicholas Gumbo visited Nzoia Sugar Company on 17th January 2025 to gain first hand insights on the status of the Company.
His visit comes after his appointment in the month of November 2024 as the Board’s Chairman following revival of the Kenya Sugar Board through enactment into law of the Sugar Bill 2022.
His visit was aimed at gaining first hand insights, strengthening collaboration, discussing key emerging matters and challenges affecting the revival of the factory and proposed recommendations for improvement and way forward.
Accompanied by a team from the Kenya Sugar Board, Hon. Gumbo had the opportunity to tour the company’s Nucleus Estate and the factory plant. Later on, the Engineer held a meeting with management at the company Boardroom where they discussed on how best to revive the company.
During the closed door meeting, Hon. Gumbo assured management of his maximum support and his commitment to ensure Nzoia Sugar Company and the entire Sugar Industry returns to full profitability.
The former Rarieda MP was on an 8 day cross country tour of the 17 sugar companies in the country.
Before the enactment of the Sugar Bill 2022, the Kenya Sugar Board was placed under the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) as one of the Directorates in charge of Sugar, the Kenya Sugar Directorate.
The reinstatement of the Kenya Sugar Board has been received very well by the stakeholders in the sugar industry and the move is believed to be a driver to the revival of the Kenyan Sugar Industry.
