By Tabitha Yattich.

Nzoia Sugar Company has resumed phase two of the Company Nucleus Estate revamp program after the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) delivered two 340hp tractors on 12th June 2024 for the project.

The ADC tractors which have the capacity to cover 30 hectares of land per day while working optimally will be conducting stubble harrowing and harrowing operations on a section of the 1300 hectares of fallow land.

According to Mr. Kennedy Cherwenyi, the company’s Nucleus Estate Manager, the target for phase two revamp program is to cover 400 hectares equivalent to 1000 acres of land by end of October 2024.

Mr. Cherwenyi added that the partnership will assist the Company save on resources which include but are not limited to hire of harrowing machinery. In this arrangement, Nzoia Sugar Company will provide fuel for the machines and compensation for the operators and experts involved while ADC will provide tractors.

The ADC partnership program was initiated by Government in August 2023, when it directed the National Youth Service together with ADC to support the company’s Nucleus Estate revamp program which was moving at a slow pace due to lack of enough resources.

During phase one of the program which was fully funded by the NYS team, over 434 hectares of land were ploughed.
