Monday 22nd August 2022 at exactly 1.35pm will remain a key moment in Nzoia Sugar Company as it marked the exact moment when the factory resumed milling following an OOC maintenance period that lasted almost three months having not been rehabilitated for close to six years.
The factory was temporarily closed at the end of May, with the OOC Maintenance starting at the early days in June and continued well into the second week of August.
Test runs were then carried for the last week, a process that finally culminated to the restart of the milling process.
Nzoia Sugar Managing Director Dr. Chrispine O. Omondi emphasized that the servicing of the milling machine was meant to reduce the operational costs from Shs. 9M that the factory has been injecting into electricity bills per month to around Shs. 3.5M.
With the maintenance now done and dusted, the factory is set to crash at the optimum level and reduce on the frequent breakdowns that have been an ever-present phenomenon in the last months before the maintenance
