NZOIA SUGAR DONATES REFLECTIVE VESTS TO LOCAL BODA BODA RIDERS

Nzoia Sugar Company has joined other organizations in the fight against road carnage by donating reflective jackets to its local Boda Boda riders.

The Company donated over 180 reflective jackets to local boda boda riders in phase one of a project targeting to donate over 500 reflective jackets.

The first phase targeted riders in the main stages surrounding the Nzoia Sugar Company namely, Kongoli, Main gate, Navakholo and Bukembe stages. Other phases of the projects will cover the larger Bungoma County.

Speaking during the launch of the project on 31 August 2020, the Managing Director of the Company CPA Cde Wanjala Makokha said that the donation of reflective jackets to boda boda riders was just one of the plans the company has lined up in place to enhance road safety within its community and the County at large.

“We have put in place a safety committee that will discuss safety related issues and follow up on implementation of the same. As we speak, we have started a project to erect road signs at strategic places, all in a bid to enhance safety on our roads”, added Mr. Makokha.

NTSA data shows that the number of road accident fatalities in 2020 between January and 23rd April was 1,022 of which 107 were motorcycle passengers. This implies that passengers on motorcycles were 10.5% of road accident fatalities in Kenya in the first four months of 2020.

This is one of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs that we believe will have a great impact in the lives of the people of Bungoma, who rely mostly on Boda boda as their daily means of transport.
