Farmers set to reap big from millers as shortage of sugarcane looms large
Earning for farmers are set for a boost as millers position themselves to sustain their operations amid rising shortage of sugarcane.
This comes as West Kenya, Olepito and Sukari Industries, all owned by billionaire Jaswant Rai, increased the prices from Sh3,800 to Sh4,100 per tonne of sugarcane.
According to West Kenya head of Agriculture division Raymond Otieno, the price increase took effect on Friday last week and over 80,000 farmers will benefit for their cane delivered to the firm.
